THIS is the team we've been waiting for. After a lifeless showing in the opener, the Patriots traveled down to Miami and absolutely lit up the Dolphins in a 33-27 shootout that had everything — big plays, clutch throws, and a statement win in one of the toughest road environments in the AFC East.
Drake Maye was nothing short of electric. The second-year quarterback shredded the Miami secondary for 312 yards and three touchdowns, showing the kind of poise and arm talent that had the entire fanbase dreaming big on draft night. He was decisive in the pocket, lethal on play-action, and made at least two throws that only a handful of quarterbacks in the league can even attempt. This was a franchise quarterback performance, full stop.
The offense as a whole racked up 412 total yards and looked like a completely different unit than the one that stumbled through Week 1. The running game chipped in 100 yards on the ground, keeping Miami's defense honest and opening up those explosive passing lanes downfield. Zero turnovers, too — a complete 180 from the opener.
Winning a division game on the road in September sets a tone. Miami is no pushover, the crowd was hostile, and the heat was suffocating. None of it mattered. This team went down there, punched the Dolphins in the mouth, and came home with a W.
