Thursday Night Football. Primetime spotlight. The whole country watching. And the New England Patriots absolutely smothered the New York Jets 27-14 under the lights at Gillette Stadium. Eight straight wins. This is not a drill.
The defense was the story tonight, and what a story it told. Four sacks. Two turnovers forced. The Jets offense looked like it was running in quicksand all night long. Every time they tried to establish any rhythm, the Pats' front seven was in the backfield disrupting everything. The secondary was blanketing receivers, the pass rush was relentless, and the Jets quarterback spent more time on his back than standing upright. This is an elite defensive unit playing at a championship level.
On the other side of the ball, the ground game was a revelation. 148 rushing yards against a Jets defense that came in ranked top ten against the run. The offensive line opened holes all night, and the backs hit them with authority. When you can run the ball like that AND play defense like this, you're a nightmare matchup for anyone in the league.
The best part? This was a division game. The AFC East is firmly in the Patriots' grasp now. Eight wins in a row, and the gap between New England and the rest of the division is widening every week. The schedule ahead is manageable, and this team has the look of one that knows exactly who it is.
