Christian Barmore didn't practice Sunday, and that's a legitimate red flag for a Patriots defense counting on their starting defensive tackle to anchor the line. The knee issue traces back to training camp management—this wasn't some random soreness that appeared overnight. Mike Vrabel and his staff were already being cautious with Barmore before the season even started. Now, with game action looming, the Patriots have to figure out if this is maintenance or something more serious.

The timing is messy. You want your starting DT fully healthy and integrated heading into Week 1, not missing reps due to injury concerns. Barmore's absence compounds what's already shaping up as a rough injury report: center/guard Ben Brown (knee) and running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) also sat out. That's three contributors dealing with lower-body issues. For an offense trying to establish rhythm early, losing your center and a running back to the same practice is far from ideal.

The question isn't whether the Patriots can survive Barmore missing a few snaps—they can. It's whether this knee becomes a recurring problem that nags him throughout the season. Training camp management sometimes works. Sometimes it's just delaying the inevitable. Given that Barmore was already being monitored during camp, this feels like the latter scenario. The Patriots need clarity before they take the field, not surprise injuries once the games count.

Brown and Henderson deserve mention too. Building offensive continuity requires your center and at least one reliable back healthy and available. These three absences on one day suggest the injury bug is already circling. Vrabel's team has to get ahead of this quickly or risk compounding problems as the season progresses.
