The Colts just handed us a gift. Alec Pierce is available. And if Bill Belichick's front office isn't already on the phone with his agent, we've got bigger problems than a weak secondary.

Here's the reality: Pierce was drafted three picks after Tyquan Thornton in 2022, and while Thornton has been a useful role player, Pierce has actually developed into something special. Leading the entire NFL in yards per reception for two consecutive seasons isn't a fluke—that's elite efficiency. That's a guy who wins downfield, who creates separation, who makes throws look easy. We've seen what happens when the Patriots invest in quality receiver talent. This isn't 2013 anymore. We need weapons.

The scheme fit is obvious. Pierce has the size (6'3") and athleticism to work both the outside and the slot. He can stack cornerbacks vertically, move the chains on intermediate routes, and most importantly, he doesn't need ten touches a game to impact a game. He's exactly the kind of complementary receiving threat that lets Mac Jones operate with rhythm and confidence. Remember when Rob Gronkowski was healthy and we actually had legitimate passing options? This isn't nostalgia—it's recognizing what works.

Cap-wise, this is doable. Pierce figures to command something in the $8-12M range on the open market—not nothing, but not the $18M slot corner money either. Belichick has shown he'll spend at receiver when the value is there. It won't break us. What will break us is another season of pretending Tyler Johnson and Javon Baker are starting-caliber wideouts.

The Colts declining his tag is frankly baffling. Maybe it's a rebuild directive from Indianapolis. Maybe cap pressure. Doesn't matter. This is a two-week window where a legit NFL receiver hits the market, and the Patriots actually have legitimate needs at the position. I'm not saying Pierce is peak Darrelle Revis value, but he's efficient, he's proven, and he's available. That combination doesn't come around often.

We need to make noise here. Seriously.
