The Patriots made moves along the defensive line Monday during their eighth training camp session, signing free agent Casey Rogers while activating running back Terrell Jennings. It's the kind of roster tinkering that happens constantly in August, but it tells you something about where Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf are evaluating their depth chart — and where they see holes.

Rogers joins a defensive tackle room that's already crowded with Leonard Taylor III, Christian Barmore, Milton Williams, and a half-dozen other bodies fighting for snaps. The Patriots have invested heavily in interior defensive line this offseason, and bringing in another free agent suggests they're still not entirely sold on the depth behind their starters. That's either a sign of thoroughness or a sign that some of the current options aren't creating separation. Probably both. In camp, competition breeds accountability, and if Rogers brings any juice at all, he'll force the incumbent reserves to sharpen up.

Terrell Jennings' activation is the more intriguing move. The running back has been on the shelf, and getting him back in the mix gives the Patriots another look at their backfield hierarchy. With Rhamondre Stevenson anchoring the room and several other options already in the fold — Myles Montgomery, Jam Miller, TreVeyon Henderson among them — Jennings' return means they're evaluating the full picture before final roster cuts loom. This is standard evaluation stuff, but it also signals that the Patriots aren't ready to count him out just yet.

These aren't headline-grabbing moves. There's no big-name acquisition here, no \"got our guy\" moment. But that's actually the point. Vrabel's approach has been methodical through camp — roster flexibility, competitive depth, keeping options alive. Some of these bodies won't make the final 53. Some will surprise. That's the whole point of August. Stay sharp, stay ready, and see who rises when the real games start.
